The Royal Canadian Navy was one of the world’s largest navies at the end of the Second World War. In the Korean War, RCN ships were the first Canadian forces sent overseas and patrolled the waters around the Korean Peninsula for five years.

This photograph shows the impact of the enemy shell that struck HMCS Iroquois' deck. Three sailors were killed and 10 were injured when this incident occurred on October 2, 1952. The incident marked the only combat losses suffered by the Royal Canadian Navy during the Korean War.
